You can really go far to get good food, and when I went far, here’s what I found.
The food in Bolzano, Italy has been greatly influenced by German cuisine. Lots of meat, and gravy-like sauces. Where we ate, the meats were juicy, and topped with spices I could not name, or more accurately, could not pronounce. This trip showed me food in a way I had never seen before. A way that is not only for the customer, but also for love, and appreciation of culture. In the picture in the top left of this montage here, there are what look like meatballs. These are actually potatoes. I have never seen potatoes presented like this ever before. Please tell me in the comments below if you know the name of this. The cafes served odd juices like blackcurrant and raspberry and never soda. Even with the beautiful smell and look of it all, my brother still would only eat pasta with butter.
In Munich, Germany the food wasn’t influenced by Italy like Bolzano’s food was. At Augustiner am Dom (I don’t know what that means, but it was printed on the front of the restaurant) I had number 403, the roasted pork, as pictured below the menu half eaten, in front of the classic mountaineer with the Alpine hat.
Here, every restaurant had rich, aromatic little starters with meat, cheese, and a couple sauces.
The food was so good in these two cities, that we kept going. Wait for my next post and see what else ended up on the plate.
